Description: Event Officials are assigned by the Director of the Boxing and Wrestling Commission for an event. They include: Boxing - Judge and Inspector; Wrestling and Boxing - Referee, Timekeeper and Ringside Physician.

"Officials" means referees, inspectors, judges, timekeepers, and physicians while they are serving at ringside, or performing physical examinations or acting in any other medical capacity, on behalf of the Commission.

"Judge" means a person licensed by the Superintendent of State Police who is at ringside during a boxing or wrestling match and who has the responsibility of scoring the performance of the participants in the match.

Each year a list of ringside and examining physicians shall be certified by the physician member of the Commission. A physician not on the certified list shall not be employed as a ringside or examining physician unless special permission is first obtained from the physician member.

Examination Information: Timekeeper - an applicant may be required to pass a written examination administered by the Director on the Oregon laws and regulations relating to boxing and perform a demonstration of competency by demonstrating the duties of a timekeeper before a representative of the Director. The examination and demonstration of competency may be waived if the applicant possesses a current and valid license as a timekeeper in another state or country and has not been subject to any disciplinary action.

Referee - A boxing or wrestling referee applicant who has not been previously licensed and examined shall submit to an initial physical examination which shall include all tests necessary to determine an applicant's physical fitness, agility, reflexes, and reaction time as specified by the Superintendent which examination shall be taken at a facility and by a physician or physicians specified by the Oregon State Boxing and Wrestling Commission Section's medical director. The cost of the examination shall be the responsibility of the applicant. Furhtermore, all boxing and wrestling referees shall submit to an annual regular examination to establish their physical fitness and may be required to be examined prior to officiating on a particular card.
Continuing Ed Requirements: The Director may require periodic seminars for referees, judges, trainers, ringside physicians and any other person licensed by the Superintendent and the Director shall require attendance at such seminar(s) as a prerequisite to the issuance or renewal of any license issued by the Superintendent.
