Description: Architects prepare plans and other documents for the construction of buildings and their related environment whether interior or exterior. Architects must renew their license every 2 years in order to maintain an active license and practice architecture in Oregon.

Fees - application, exam, etc.:  Exam Application: $75.
Examination: The examination consists of seven divisions with fees for each section, which are set by the examination operations providers. Examinees testing in Canada will be charged an additional Government Sales Tax. Note: Contact the Board office for details and transitions.

Examination Information: Exam Time: Daily, by appointment only.
Exam Locs: At participating test centers located throughout the United States and Canada. Oregon test centers are located in Eugene, Milwaukie, Portland, Redmond, & Medford.
Exam Pass: All seven divisions of the examination are administered and graded by computer. All test scores are reported as Pass or Fail. Passing or failing an examination depends solely on the examinee's level of performance in relation to the established point representing entry-level competence.
Exam Repeat: Examinees may not take the same division more than once within a six-month time period. Examinees will have no opportunity to review or challenge test results
Continuing Ed Requirements: A total of 24 continuing professional education (CPE) credits are required to renew; all in health safety and welfare subjects. A licensee who has been registered for less than 24 months preceeding the renewal period must obtain 1 hour of CPE per month of registration including the month of initial licensure. Licensees who reside and are registered in another jurisdiction that requires CPE to renew are also exempt from reporting CPE in Oregon. All active licensees are subject to random CPE audits. Refer to OAR 806-010-0145 for further details and CPE requirements.

Prerequisites: 1. Be at least 18 years of age.
2. Have an accredited degree in architecture from a program approved by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
3. Complete the Intern Development Program (IDP), consisting of 700 Value Units of training requirements, in accordance with the National Council of Architectural Registrations Board table on Training Requirements for the Intern Architect.
4. Pass the computerized Architectural Registration Exam.
5. Pass the Oregon Board of Architect Examiners Jurisprudence Examination and Oral Interview.

Reciprocity: A reciprocity candidate must provide evidence of passing an exam to meet the seismic/lateral forces requirements. The NCARB examination offered in 1965 or later contain this portion. Exams taken prior to 1965 may not contain a seismic portion, and therefore, a candidate must successfully complete the appropriate NCARB examination divisions before Oregon registration may be granted. A candidate must also verify two years of practice in another jurisdiction or proof of completion of the NCARB IDP training requirements.
