Description: Licensed Professional Counselors assess, diagnose and treat individuals with mental, emotional or behavioral disorders using counseling services to address personal growth and wellness, provided through therapeutic relationships with individuals, couples, children, families, groups, and organizations.

Duration: 1 year
Fees - application, exam, etc.:  Application: $125 or $172.25 if criminal background check needed
Examination: $75.
Original License: $100.
Renewal: $125 each year
Responsible Agency: Counselors & Therapists, Licensed Professional
Examination Information: Exams are given 1 week each month.
Exam Locations: Bend, Coos Bay, Eugene, Klamath Falls, LaGrande, Medford, Portland, and Salem.
Exam Pass: Nationally established cutoff score. Must pass exam within 2 years after meeting experience requirements for licensure.
Exam Repeat: At least once per year.
Cost of exam paid by license applicant
Continuing Ed Requirements: Licensees must complete 40 clock hours of approved continuing education every two license years, birth month through birth month. Six clock hours of the 40 must be ethics training.
Bonding Requirements: None
Insurance Requirements: None
Prerequisites: 1. Master's degree in counseling or a related mental health degree from an accredited college or university.
2. 2,400 hours of supervised clinical experience.
3. Passage of national competency exam and Oregon law and rules exam.

Renewals: Licenses are renewed annually during the licensee's birth month and may be renewed online.
