Duration: 2 Years
Fees - application, exam, etc.:  Initial: $30, plus $45 license fee. Background check $44.50.
Renewal: $45 if received by the license expiration date. If late, an additional $45 penalty is due.
Responsible Agency: Insurance Division - Licenses
Examination Information: Exam Time: By appointment only.
Exam Locations: Eugene, Portland, Salem, Medford, Bend, and Baker City.
Exam Passage Rate: 70 percent or higher for each portion of examination.
Exam Repeat: No restrictions.
Exam Cost: $55 for Life and Health, $55 for Property/Casualty, $45 for Life, $45 for Health.

Continuing Ed Requirements:
  • 24 continuing education hours are required for each renewal period.
  • All producers must include 3 continuing education hours of Oregon law and 3 continuing education hours of ethics for insurance producers at each renewal.
  • Annuity suitability is required for producers selling annuities.

2. Must disclose any criminal convictions.
3. Pass written examination.
4. Have fingerprints taken at the testing center.
5. Must complete required pre-licensing training: 20 hours property and 20 hours casualty; 20 hour personal lines; 20 hours life; 20 hours health.

Additional Information: Effective January 1, 2011 - All applicants for a resident license are required to take and pass any required exams prior to submitting the application or fingerprint information to the Insurance Division.

Effective January 1, 2013 - all license applications, renewal applications and fingerprint impressions are to be submitted to the division electronically. Fingerprinting services are available at the PSI testing center.
