Description: Naturopathic Physicians are primary care physicians that diagnose, treat, and care for patients using a system of practice that bases treatment of physiological functions and abnormal conditions on natural laws and substances governing human body.

Naturopathic physicains are primary care physicians who treat the patient, not just the disease.

Fees - application, exam, etc.:  State examination fee for the Jurisprudence and Formulary is $150;
Initial License: $300 pro-rated;
Renewal: Annual renewal fee is $300;
PDMP: Annual fee is $25;
Late fee (before 12/15) is $100.
Restoration fee (after December 31) is $150.
Duplicate license: $25.00

Examination Information:
  • Exam Time: Twice a year for NPLEX; 4 times a year for Oregon Jurisprudence and Formulary examinations

    Must qualify for state exams by passing NPLEX Part I, Part II and Minor Surgery exams. Information on these exams is found at nabne.org
Continuing Ed Requirements: 50 hours continuing education each year, of which 10 must be in pharmacology and 2 in ethics.

A one-time pain education is required by the Department of Human Services for the State of Oregon. Reference www.oregon.gov/DHS/pain/training.shtml for more information on the pain education.

Prerequisites: 1. Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts or Science study
2. Graduate from approved naturopathic college/university
3. Pass NPLEX Part I, Part II and Minor Surgery examinations
4. Pass exams given by Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine
5. Pass fingerprint and criminal background check
6. Pay appropriate fees
Renewals: Annual renewal for an active, inactive, natural childbirth certificate and retired status. All licensees and certificates issued by this agency expire December 31 every year.
Continuing education is required for renewal of the Active, Inactive, and Natural Childbirth certificate.

Required Documentation: To qualify for examination and licensure an applicant must submit original transcripts from undergraduate and naturopathic medical schools; provide a copy of diploma from medical school; have verification submitted directly from other jurisdictions, if previously licensed; submit to a criminal background check; have transcript of passing scores for NPLEX exams submitted to this agency.
